Liz Masakayan

1996 was Liz Masakayan's ninth season on the WPVA tour. She was MVP in 1992, and co-MVP in 1993, along with her partner Karolyn Kirby. She and Kirby dominated the tour in the 1993 and 1994 seasons. She has been hampered by knee injuries since late 1994. In 1998 she re-teamed with Karolyn Kirby for the FIVB event in Brazil.

During the 1997 season, she partnered with Elaine Youngs to compete at both WPVA and FIVB events (though Liz played in a few WPVA events with other partners, including Karolyn Kirby). Liz and Elaine took third place at Irving, which was Elaine's first WPVA event ever.

Liz Masakayan also teamed with Elaine Youngs to try to qualify for the 2000 Olympics. They came heart-breakingly close. They took first place in the last FIVB event before Sydney (in Dalian, China), beating the team of Misty May and Holly McPeak in the finals. But because of the way the qualification points are accumulated, the second place finish put May & McPeak ahead of Masakayan & Youngs for the Olympics.

Liz played at UCLA 1982-85, and has been an assistant volleyball coach there. In 1988 she was on the USA's (in-door) Olympic team than competed in Seoul. With partner Karolyn Kirby, she won the gold medal in women's beach volleyball at the 1994 Goodwill Games in St. Petersburg. In 1996 she competed in the Olympic beach volleyball trials with Angela Rock. Born in Quezon City, Philippines, she is 5' 8''.
